Standards of Accountability and Transparency
The Global Reporting Initiative
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a non-profit organization that promotes economic, environmental and social sustainability. GRI provides all companies and organizations with a comprehensive sustainability reporting framework that is widely used around the world. Kuoni reports according to the GRI G3.1 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. The Kuoni Group's GRI Index for the 2012 reporting period is available here.
The UN Global Compact
The UN Global Compact is a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. By doing so, business, as a primary driver of globalization, can help ensure that markets, commerce, technology and finance advance in ways that benefit economies and societies everywhere. In February 2013 Kuoni signed, as the first major tour operator, on to the United Nations Global Compact, committing to incorporating the initiative and its principles into its strategy and culture.
TourCert, the non-profit organization for certification in tourism brings together experts from the tourism industry, universities, environment and development organisations and politics and awards the CSR label to tour operators according to stringent qualitative and quantitiative social and environmental criteria. An independent CSR Certification Council decides about the admission of auditors and about awarding the label to be issued.
56 tour operators have been awarded with the label for responsibilty and sustainability in tourism. For the second year in a row, Kuoni Switzerland has been the only tour operator with more than 250 employees to be honored with the CSR-certified tourism label. The detailed TourCert report is available in German here.
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an independent non-profit organisation that seeks to establish and maintain a long-term partnership between shareholders and the private sector which is based on open communications of emission values and the activities undertaken to combat climate change. Kuoni has been part of the CDP since 2007 and, as a result, reports annual details of its energy efficiency and emissions and the actions it has taken to help fight climate change. In doing so, we hope that this open dialogue on the business risks and opportunities that global warming is creating will help us all find rational responses to the climate change challenge.
